It's been raining and dreary for the past 8 days but the sun is finally out today! The past week I've taken to wearing my super neon orange running shirt (thanks to Toronto Women's Half a few years back!) or my neon green rain jacket for biking. Take that dark clouds! But yes, I have been still getting out for runs, bikes (as my commute), or long, brisk walks. I haven't done much indoors except for one video, mainly because when I get home, the last thing I want to do is exercise on my floor.
And so, I sit sipping my morning coffee in my running clothes. One of the tricks I've developed over the years isn't simply putting out your workout clothes the night before, but I put them on immediately when I get out of bed. No going to the washroom first, no putting the kettle on, no reaching for the bathrobe. Once they're on, I can't put them back clean. It automatically gets me in the mindset and I'm good to go. They say the biggest challenge is the first step out the door, but to me, it's the first step into the shorts.
I'm also quite lucky to have 4 days a week of a bike-able commute. I know this isn't possible for a lot of people but if it is, it might be something to consider. If not, the old park-a-few-blocks-away or get-off-the-subway-one-stop-earlier tricks might work for you. It's all about finding how to get the exercise in, not if you're going to get the exercise in, that really fuels the healthy and active lifestyle.
I challenge myself... a lot.
